Myth – deskMate is only for participants in Germany
We believe it’s time to dispel the myth that deskMate is only for participants in Germany. This is not the case.
The key word here is “latency”. It describes in ms (milliseconds) how long data takes to get from A to B. For example, how long a keyboard click takes to become visible in the deskMate desktop.
We have just measured the following values from participants accessing our data center in Frankfurt.
| Participant location (distance to Frankfurt as the crow flies) | Latency |
|---|---|
| Hamburg (393km) | 21ms |
| Munich (301km) | 11ms |
| Barcelona/Spain (1092km) | 42ms |
| Iasi/Romania (1424km) | 103ms |
| Bankok/Thailand (9314km) | 220ms |
| Queretaro/Mexico (9527km) | 153ms |
| Farminton Hills/USA (6665km) | 115ms |
Microsoft specifies a threshold of 150ms for viral computers. Users usually have no problems below this. Citrix states that a value of over 250ms is feasible, but delays must be expected here.
Our examples and data show that with deskMate you can also reach participants who are very far away and who you would otherwise not be able to reach in an economically viable way.
