The Active HDD and the Inactive HDD. But what&#8217;s the point of having two, since the normal desktop only has one HDD?<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Active HDD:<\/strong> As the name suggests, this is the active HDD. All desktops in the pool boot from it.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Inactive HDD:<\/strong> It holds the new, not yet active image or the old, no longer active image.<\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>This means that new images can be uploaded to the inactive HDD even though desktops are still using the pool and the active HDD. With just one click, the admin can then decide when to change the HDDs.<br\/>If desktops are still running in the pool, they will continue to run after the switch and use the inactive HDD. Until the desktop is shut down (reboot continues to use the inactive HDD in this case). If the desktop is shut down and restarted, or any desktop in the pool is started, the active HDD is used.<\/p>\n\n<p><br\/><strong>Conclusion<\/strong> <br\/>The admin is therefore much more flexible and can decide exactly when he wants to change the active and inactive HDD.<\/p>\n\n<p><br\/><strong>Recommendation<\/strong><br\/>Our recommendation is to switch when the desktop is no longer running on the pool.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Customers keep asking us what the difference is and when to use which of the two.
